about me

the beginning

My dad introduced me to The Beatles, Deep Purple, WAR, and the Bee Gees when I was just a boy, feeding me what I never knew I had an appetite for - music.

It wasn't until a mission trip to Indonesia in 2003 that I actually picked up the bass, slapping and popping violently yet elegantly (sort of); an enraged gazelle. Like a detonator button before a dramatic explosion, something clicked, and within a year, I was playing on the church stage.

My musical taste has since expanded to include artists like Radiohead, Meshuggah, Snarky Puppy, and Sleep Token; with bass players such as Michael League, Jaco Pastorius, Flea, and Paul McCartney my biggest influences.

Coaching approach

Before working in music education in 2017, I grew up as a self-taught musician. This means I understand firsthand its challenges, and so I’ve developed methods to help others identify and plug their gaps. I’m not here to turn you into a Victor Wooten or [insert hottest new Japanese bass virtuoso], but to help you discover your own style and become the best bass player you were designed to be.

For that to happen, we'll always ensure proper technique (because nobody enjoys playing with pain) and we’ll keep your fundamentals, like timekeeping, tastier than a McSpicy Double dipped in curry sauce. There’s nothing more lovely than a bass groove perfectly locked into the pocket. Mm-mm!!!

Concurrently, we’ll analyse your favourite bass lines, map out the steps to master them, and make sure you're having fun along the way.

Otherwise…

When I'm not teaching or playing the bass, I find creative outlets in writing (fiction, music, content). I'm also a football nut, dedicated Bible reader, and a sci-fi thriller fan.

It's worth noting that by 2032, my 10 (imaginary) albums will have all gone multi-platinum worldwide. It will be extraordinary. You should see the blimps with my name on them floating above Marina Bay Sands.

Yet in the midst of all this - and strange though it may sound - there truly are some things more important than music, like family. I’ve been married since 2014 to my beautiful wife, Promise. With her, I spend time laughing heartily, having deep conversations, and going on wild adventures you can’t even imagine (seriously, don’t try).
